WATCHMEN.. [Jun. 24th, 2007|06:52 pm]

Need I say more about the only graphic novel(Comic book) to have won the Hugo Award and one of the TIME magazine's 100 best selling english language novel since 1923!!

The original books were a series of 10 books set in 1985. One of my friends gifted the compilation to me. It is one of the most dark and intense novel/comic I have ever read. After reading the book, my sense of good and bad, right and wrong were so badly shaken that I had to take a good night sleep to regain my senses. It's written by Alan Moore, who also produced other master pieces such as V for Vendetta. Illustrations are provided by Dave Gibbons, known for his work in Batman, Superman and Green Lantern.

The illustrations are a work of art and convey the story in a really dark manner. This comic book is not for kids.. also its not for adults with weak minds. It's truly a mind bender. Its not one of those novels in which the hero defeats the villain and everyone live happily ever after.. nor is it one of those non-conformist novels in which the villain gets to rule the world. After reading the book you don't judge the events that take place as good or bad.. you loose that sense altogether. The sense of realism conveyed in the book is fantabulous. Lay hands on that book ASAP... till then, check out the wiki entry.

The Fountainhead [Apr. 4th, 2007|02:32 pm]

This is no ordinary book. Its a statement , a bible, a manual to life. The more you read it, the more flaws you find in yourself. The more you follow the protagonist, the more unhappier you are.. and then there is no turning back... and then there is enlightenment. You gotta read it to feel it... and its NOT for casual reading or for kids.

The story is structured in such a way that the characters; Roark, Dominique, Wynand, Keating and Toothey epitomize the extreme of their kind. I feel that in real life we find a mix of such characters. The literature jumps back and forth between abstract representation and literary representation.. the story will appear different to different readers.

Another great performance by the "Fight Club" guy... Edward Morton. All the actors have really acted well. Infact the screenplay and the story is so amazing that you would'nt even notice them. The whole movie looks incredibly real. The suspence is truly powerpacked... and has the element of the "Sixth Sense" in a way that the whole movie gets a new meaning in the last 30 seconds of the movie. Its a great family movie... and a must watch.

One PATHETIC Movie..
I am a great fan of kiddish special effect movies, but I am pretty sure that even the dumbest kid will hate this movie. The plot is a mess, the characters are goofy, the screenplay is pathetic, the special effects are boring and action is non existent. It looked more like a low budget spoof of a movie. Rotten tomatoes gave it a well deserved rating of 0.

Superman returns [Jul. 1st, 2006|11:42 am]

As opposed to other superhero and fantasy movies, this movie had very little element of action. It was more of a ground work for forth comming superman movies. It has appropriate mixture of melodrama and thrill. Well I wont tell you the story but no matter how old you are, you should see this movie.

The thing that separates superman from other heroes is his human side (although he is not). He appears to be spiritual.. he resonates as a holistic leader. Bryan Singer has done an awesome job in bringing Superman back into our lives.

Well I am not an emotional guy, but I cried when Cristopher Reeves died. He was a superman in both real and reel life. Superman is not just a man... its a conglomeration of all the ideas that man stands for. Brandon Routh fits perfectly into Reeves shoes, atleast he had the guts to accept the supposedly "cursed" role of superman. Its a family movie with no violence or sex scenes...

Underworld Evolution [Feb. 12th, 2006|09:56 pm]

Underworld evolution is the continuation to the movie Underworld. Kate Beckinsale is looked terribly beautiful and gorgeous. The plot is fantastic and is a well filmed sequel to the original film.
Well .... the movie is not about vampires and werewolves now, though it started on that note. Turns out that the they had a common ancestory and rest of the plot slowly unwinds itself. It does not have any surprises... the hero gets the female, defeats the villian, and they live happily ever after.

A overall good movie to see with the whole family.... A bit on the creepy side though :P

This movie singlehandedly thrusted me to Linux/OSS 4 years ago in a linux conference. The movie is a documentary about ups and downs of the linux operating system, from its inception to its commercialization. This movie does dispel some myths surrounding Linux... the most common being "How can a free software make money?"

Recently got its .torrent from isotorrent and downloaded the movie. Its a great watch for Computer geeks.... even if you are not one, you should probably see it to know what this post is all abt ;P ... and a little knowledge never kills anyone.

Best documentary ever and a must see for all intelligent species in the cosmos.

Lord of War [Jan. 21st, 2006|05:20 pm]

I have proposed a theory. Any thing with Nicolas cage in it is definitely great. Lord of the war is one movie which makes you think. The protagonist, Nicolas Cage, is a sadistic guy with screwed up principles of life and if you read the written script he probably would sound more like a villian (He is an arm dealer whose business strives on wars and battles... he does nothing to start them however). The movie makes his character a lot deeper and delves into a totally different dimension of life.
He is an arms dealer who does not care of anything but his job, not because he is workaholic or insane, but because he is good at it. In one of his dialogues he says that the arms dealer will inherit the earth because the rest of the guys will be busy fighting. Ever heard of the phrase the geek shall inherit the earth. Think of it in a deogatory way and your life wont be the same.

Another great thriller. Rachel McAdams looks pretty. She is one actress with earthly beauty.(in the sense not like Aish which is godly...i.e unachievable). The movie revolves around Rachel who is kidnapped on the flight and asked to do an unethical job (involving the murder of the defence minister), lest she want her father to be killed. Of Course like any happy ending story the truth rules over evil... but it is the middle part that keeps u excited.
A must watch and great movie in times of crap.

Wedding Crashers [Jan. 16th, 2006|11:38 pm]

What a great movie to see after a terrible day. Rachel McAdams sweeps you off the floor and Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughan are hillarious. Infact Rachel looked so cute to me that I wikipediad her, got another movie she acted in and saw it.

The movie is based on wedding crashers who go to weddings to get along with girls and have free food. The guys are not thugs but sofisticated fellas who do it just for the heck of it. Owen Wilson falls for Rachel in one of the weddings and the story takes a ironical twist( of course I wont tell u what happened in it). Owen Wilson musters strength to propose her after crashing a funeral!!! A must see. A great family movie... except few scenes.

A great timepass
